The
ideology that every single baptized person is called
to carry out their universal mission of the church
began in the person of St. Vincent Pallotti. His foundation
- the Union of Catholic Apostolate (UAC) - began in
1835 with a small group of Roman clergy and lay individuals
who wanted to more fully participate in the mission
of the church.
St.
Vincent knew that the clergy and religious could not
do all the work of the Church. As a priest ahead of
his time, he encouraged the laity to collaborate in
the work of the Union by following their personal
and unique baptismal vocation. The Pallottine Sisters,
Brothers and Priests were founded a short time later.
The
work of the Union of Catholic Apostolate began simply
by ministering to the victims of the cholera epidemic.
Later they opened schools and orphanages, ministered
to the sick, raised money for the missions, and remained
available to meet other needs that arose.
As Pallottine Missionary Sisters, we are collaborators
in the UAC. Our charism is to spread the Gospel message
and to help others acknowledge their gifts and their
baptismal call. Our goal is the same today as it was
in Vincent's time -
